The main item on today's agenda was to complete the Xmas shopping - in regards of the food and drink. Zoe had volunteered to come along and give us a hand. Before we got a change to start on that, however, I was called to her house. Poppy the Elf had been inventive overnight and a huge hanging swing had magically found its way into the living room from the garden. It had to be moved and Darren was out at work all day.
Eventually, we did head to Sainsbury's where we met the local store manager. After a 10 minute chat, we finally ploughed in among the aisles. It didn't take too long - but we did fill two trolleys. We also made a significant contribution to Sainsbury's annual profits.
We had a quiet hour or two in the afternoon. We had agreed to meet up with Zoe and Ellie and accompany them to the Light Trail in Hotham Park, and visit the funfair. Unfortunately, we had realised that the light show finished on Sunday. This explained why the park was so dark (and the car park so empty)!
We made our way to the funfair. There wasn't a huge selection of rides, but Ellie and Zoe went on the Runaway Train, and into the Ice Palace (which was a maze).
Eventually, we plucked up the courage and got tickets for the skating rink. They provided some clever clip-on skates that Ellie could wear over her boots. Each boot then had two parallel set of blades for stability. I had a pair of hard plastic skates which clamped closed and bruised every bone in my foot.
It took a few minutes to gain some confidence on the ice. It is, after all, 52 years since I lasted skated. The biggest problem that I was finding was the lack of momentum as I had to keep pace with Ellie. She was doing very well. I half expected this to be a flash in the pan and she would stop after a couple of laps. Oh no! She was loving it. In the end we were probably on the ice for about 30-40 minutes. Better still, we Bothe escaped without bruises or injuries.
It was a shame about the light trail, but we had a good time any way.
