The day started with the usual call with my cousins. While the call was in progress, Ross arrived to complete the boiler installation (at least, that was the plan).
I hung around all day to answer questions, make decisions, and offer a pair of hands when required. Things could have gone better. As water was reintroduced into the system a couple of minor leaks were evident. Unfortunately, both leaks were in pretty inaccessible places and took a lot of time, patience, and effort to rectify. Bit by bit the problems were eliminated and the system refilled and bled. The boiler was fired up and the hot water system warmed up nicely. It was now time to change the existing thermostatic controls. The upstairs 'stat was installed and programmed into my phone. The heating started to come through. His attention then turned to the underfloor heating zones. Again, this did not go smoothly. When the old 'stats were removed it was clear that they were using a 12V signal... the replacement 'stats were 230V. Oops. Replacement 'stats will be ordered and he will complete the installation later in the week.
I'm glad this is not a project I was attempting myself.
