Drawn out

Ellie is off to spend the weekend with Pistol Pete. The Gorse Fox decided to open up the boxes collected yesterday from Magnets. Out came the first couple of wire basket drawers. The Gorse Fox placed them on the work top and settled down to read the instructions. The Silver Vixen walked in. "They are smaller than expected" she said. The Gorse Fox looked up. He hadn't really noticed. Out came the tape measure... the 400mm drawers were, in fact, 300mm.

He checked the part numbers on the order. Correct.

He checked the brochure. Correct.

How could they be wrong? The Gorse Fox phoned Magnets and explained his dilemma.

Well, it turns out that the 400mm drawers are not 400mm. That measurement refers to the size of the cabinet into which they fit. This then allows for the thickness of the cabinet sides, and the clearance for the hinges. This is NOT explained in the brochure.

They were very good and said he could bring them back and would get a refund. An hour later he was standing in the shop, the refund was being processed and a new order had been submitted for 500mm drawers (which still seem counter-intuitive when the opening is only 467mm).
