Miners

Ellie slept through - we didn’t hear a peep from her until her alarm went off at 7 a.m., by which time I was already downstairs making my first coffee. The morning was following the normal pattern until 10 minutes before the walk to school. This was the moment that the heavens opened and we had a monsoon. I donned my waterproofs, and Ellie grabbed her umbrella, boots, and raincoat. Diane was told to stay at home in the dry and Ellie and I went to school. By the time I arrived back home (there was no walk this morning) the rain had stopped but my waterproofs were sodden… but had kept me dry.

While I settled down for breakfast, Diane drove up to Kim’s with her X-rays (which we had been storing for her) so that she could take them to the chiropractor on Wednesday. It is Jon’s birthday today, but he was at work so Di didn’t manage to see him.

Soon after she spotted home, I left. I had an appointment with the dental hygienist. It started to rain as soon as I went out… stopped while I was on the bus (which was late), and started again just as I arrived in Chichester. The hygienist was running a little late, but I settled down in her chair and she retrieved her various mining implements. I’m sure there was a jackhammer, hammers, chisels, and probably some dynamite. Half an hour later, feeling as if I had done 3 rounds with Mike Tyson, I paid the bill and caught the bus home.

We had a quiet start to the afternoon. Diane was finishing the installation of an invisible zip in a dress she had been making. I spent some quality time with my Kindle. Time ticked by, and we went to collect Ellie from school.

Ellie will be with us overnight again as Zoe has to be in Crawley at 04:00 for some training regarding Sainsbury’s “online” services.
