The forecast said that we were likely to get 40mm of rain overnight. I was surprised, therefore, when I got up and found the roads and pathways were completely dry. That lasted for about 15 minutes, and then the heavens opened and tried to make up for lost time. I dressed in my waterproofs for the walk to school with Ellie. Needlessly. The rain had stopped, and by the time I headed off for a walk, the sun was coming out. An hour later, I got home in serious danger of overheating.
I made a coffee and took Di a tea, then started on my breakfast. The heavens opened once more, and it poured for a couple of hours. I had timed my walk to perfection. With breakfast out of the way, I grabbed the ironing board and made a start on the pile of laundry that needed pressing. When Di finished upstairs, she took over to iron her stuff and Ellie's.
Zoe was up soon after 1 a.m. this morning. She had to be in Crawley ready for her course to begin between 3:30 and 3:45. She had a fairly intense day, but got away late morning. She stopped off to collect some of Ellie's gear and then went home to grab a couple of hours of sleep before going to collect Ellie from school. We decided to stay at home as Ellie would really appreciate the time with Zoe. Plans didn't work out. We didn't go to collect Ellie, but neither did Zoe. She had slept through the alarm and the phone calls we had made to wake her. In the end, Bonnie's mum, Kerry, collected Ellie and brought her to us. Di managed to get through to Zoe and she came straight round. She felt dreadful, but Ellie laughed it off, having seen the funny side of the whole affair.
