Despite what I may have said earlier in the week, Ellie did not start school today; the first day of the new term is tomorrow. As Zoe had time off, there was no reason for us to get up early, so it was gone 7am before I emerged to greet the day.
After a leisurely breakfast, we hopped in the car and made our way across to Haskins in Angmering. We had a date with the Sonning Crew for a coffee and scones. The weather was pretty foul, but it was nice in the garden centre's restaurant - even if the queue for coffee was trying to prove that snails really are very nimble compared to dithering humans and inefficient staff. We settled down and chatted over our hot beverages for an hour or two, catching up on news, health, and plans. It was particularly nice to see Ian and Trudy, as we see them so rarely now that they have moved. SO we heard about their 3rd new car of the year - Trudy didn't like the last ones. We also heard about Chris rejecting his new Mercedes and awaiting a refund or replacement. Gardens were discussed along with plans (or not) for upcoming holidays.
When we parted ways, we all went for independent strolls around the shop itself. We ended up in Lakeland, where we picked up a few bits.
Back home, we settled down in the Orangery to read our Kindles, and Di took the opportunity to call Kim for a chat. Kim is still having trouble with her back and is heading to the Chiropractor tomorrow to see if he can help. We await news with interest.
