Daft

It was utterly daft, but I started writing this at 04:50 this morning. I was wide awake and had been for about 90 minutes. I gave up any hope of further sleep and made my way downstairs to sit quietly with my Kindle, my iPad, and my MacBook, accompanied by a cup of tea. My brain had been processing random subjects such as the history of the family name stretching back to the 13th century in Ireland, the best secondary schools in this area for Ellie in a few years, how wet it was overnight, and what I should wear for the school run, and the success of the sticky pork recipe I had cooked yesterday evening.

Diane came down soon after 7 a.m. It turns out that she too had a dreadful night’s sleep and still hadn’t dropped off at 3 this morning. Mind you, some chap setting off fireworks at 2:30 didn’t help.

After a shower, I set off for Zoe’s to join the first walk to school for the new school year. It was thrashing down with rain, and by the time I arrived at Zoe’s, 200 m from home, my legs were soaked. Ellie had been a little apprehensive about starting the new class with a new teacher, but by the time we set off, she was her usual chirpy self.

We both had a quiet morning. I spent some time filing more documents, and Di pottered about preparing laundry bundles. As we rolled through towards midday, I set off on a walk so that I could collect Di’s meds from the chemist. I did not time this well. By the time I passed Ellie’s school, the heavens opened again, and the rain pounded down. I was wearing my rain-proof trousers… and can vouch for theft, they are not in any way rainproof… even if they do dry quickly. By the time I got to the chemist, they were stuck to my legs, and water was trickling down into my socks.

Arriving home, clutching the meds, I stripped off and donned my tracksuit. I then went to the computer to find some waterproof trousers. They are now on order and should arrive by the weekend (by which time, it will probably dry up again).

The afternoon was spent finishing book 100 and starting book 101. Diane went to collect Ellie from school with Zoe and then settled down in the Orangery to phone Denise for a chat.
