Ellie wandered into our bedroom at 3 a.m. and tapped the Gorse Fox on the shoulder (he was already awake, having heard her get out of bed and potter across the landing).
"Grandpa" she said.
"What do you want?" he asked.
"iPad" she responded.
"It's too early" he said "let me take you back to bed".
She started to walk towards the door then said "Nana take me". The Silver Vixen rose from from the arms of Morpheus and conducted Ellie back to bed. No more was said. No sound was made.
At 6:17 Ellie pottered into our bedroom. Tapped the Gorse Fox on the shoulder and said "Grandpa, iPad". She always was eloquent. He quiesced, and she settled back down for 45 minutes with the iPad.
After we had dropped Ellie at school, the Silver Vixen went to have coffee with some friends. The Gorse Fox settled down to do some admin., the top-up shop could wait for tomorrow There was a pile of scanning (and shredding) to complete. It then occurred to him that his new backup system didn't, as yet, incorporate the folders where his newly scanned documents would be saved. A few minutes of adjustment and that too was under control.
At lunchtime we had a call with the school where Ellie will go in September, then headed off to collect her from Dizzy Ducklings. The Gorse Fox was chatting with one mother and mentioned Ellie's nocturnal visit. Some hours later, back home, the Silver Vixen asked about this. "Did Ellie get up in the night?" she asked. The Gorse Fox explained and then pointed out that she, the Silver Vixen, had emerged and taken Ellie back to bed. The Silver Vixen had no recollection of this.
