The Gorse Fox knows that the things that amuse and entertain him are not necessarily the same things that amuse others. Today has been a day that has provided him with great satisfaction.
There was the usual preamble to the day followed by the call with his cousins. He had to set up the call via his iPad as the usual iMac is now acting as an elegant doorstop (and provides no more function than that). Like so many of these calls, it came to an abrupt end as the time expired and none of us had noticed the countdown. The Gorse Fox raised the fact that a stranger contacted him yesterday having found that he is a DNA match and appears to be a second cousin. The Gorse Fox passed on all the information he had, but none of the cousins have a clue as to who he may be. Whilst he gave some background information he doesn't know much about his family and has no clue how we connect. The Gorse Fox will have to delve a little deeper.
Once the morning call was complete and a few domestic chores were crossed off the list, the Gorse Fox returned to his study. He needed to complete his interim backup system. The code came together fairly easily and a few tests were executed. The code was tweaked and a few more tests were run. Finally, it was ready for prime time. He went through and manually triggered the backup for each of the more precious or more volatile file systems. All went well, so the code was dropped into crontab so that it executes automatically according to the schedule that has been set. The Gorse Fox will check in the morning to see if everything worked as planned. Very satisfying.
