Drawers

No the Gorse Fox isn't confused of the spelling.

Ellie was dropped off just after 7:00 this morning. It was a cold and clear dawn and she was well wrapped up. She settled down to breakfast and then got washed and dressed, ready for school. As she had plenty of time to spare we went online and did some of her "Numbots". These are games and quizzes based on basic arithmetic. She is getting quite good at these and managed to open up another level in the sequence today.

It was incredibly icy on the walk to school. The Silver Vixen really should have stayed behind, but she chanced it by clinging onto the Gorse Fox all the way there and back. `Ellie charged into class as soon as the doors were open and we skated home. Being Thursday we had the shopping on the schedule and that occupied much of the morning.

We had bought a wardrobe for Ellie a while back. It was well designed and is quite sturdy. Its big weakness, however, is the drawers. These run on sliders which glide on ball bearings. It sounds good, but the ironmongery is cheap and has caused problems. In fact both drawers became stuck in the last couple of days. It was time for an intervention (that is the current terminology the Gorse Fox believes). The drawers were ripped out, the runners removed, hundreds of ball bearings were picked up from the floor, and the Gorse Fox set about a more sensible solution. Some 15mm square batons were cut to size. The heights carefully calculated and measured. The new runners were screwed to the sides at height to allow the drawers to rest on them. It was fiddly, but it seems to have worked perfectly.

The Gorse Fox heard from an old school friend today. We haven't seen each other or spoken for about 50 years. He has agreed to come to the luncheon that the Gorse Fox is arranging for next month for a select Band of Brothers. It will be nice to see him again.
