Ellie was dropped off just after 7:00 again today. In fact, the Gorse Fox had only just put the kettle on. She was in lovely and chirpy mood and once fed, washed, and dressed she played Snakes and Ladders with Grandpa before having to leave for school. It was bitterly cold again, so the Silver Vixen stayed home. We really didn't want to take a chance on any frost or ice.
After breakfast, the Gorse Fox did the accounts and caught up on some emails. He had woken at 4:~00 this morning and after checking the plumbing couldn't drop back off into a deep sleep. His brain started to think about the drawers that he fixed yesterday. They needed a refinement. The screws that held the runner in place were a bit short and may not survive repeated use. Now, mid-morning, he decided to head for B&Q and get some contact adhesive and some screws that were 5mm longer than those currently in use. The Silver Vixen also pointed out that the upper drawer needed to be raise a couple of millimetres. Adhesive and screws in hand, the drawers were removed followed by the runners. The runners were then glued in place and held with the longer screws. The upper runners were treated the same way, but raised slightly. Finally, new guides were fitted so that the drawers would not tip as they were opened. Job done (again).
The Silver Vixen went round to the school with Urban-Cub to collect Ellie. Ellie was very excited when she got back to the house. She had got an award. She was "Star of the Week" and also, separately, had the "Head Teacher's Award".
We obviously made a huge fuss of her success. She is doing really well and we need to reinforce her progress and show that the homework she has been doing makes a real difference.
