Today saw the Gorse Fox hit the football pitch for the last time this year. The turnout was good but uneven so we ended up with a 7-v-8 game where one player switched at halftime. The sides were picked and, as usual, seemed a little lopsided in terms of talent. The Gorse Fox was playing for the yellow-bibs and we managed to hold off the orange bibs for a good fifteen minutes before, against the run of play, we managed to sneak a goal. Now that the deadlock was broken we started to pass the ball about and make better use of the space. Our one goal soon became two, then three, and by halftime, we were 4-0 ahead.
In the second half, we lost our one-man advantage and the orange team changed their formation. The Gorse Fox expected to be under the cosh in the centre of defence. He was wrong. Again, our use of space and better passing kept them at bay. We finally conceded a goal, but withing moment the Gorse Fox swept up the pitch and with a neat interchange of passes, hammered the ball into the net. The final score was 5-1. The Gorse Fox finished the year with 106 goals, having "run" 520kms during his various games.
Back home the Silver Vixen, who had been along to Pilates without joining in, was finishing off her Christmas cards. The Gorse Fox went and checked the garage loft. There are some trinkets that have been sored away somewhere and we can't find. The garage proved not to be their hiding place. He also had to go and fill up the Fiesta, yet again. He seems to be forever at the petrol station... July, September, and now December. He's also noticed that he has finally broken the 15,000-mile mark in the car - he must be wearing it out.
