The rain fell in Biblical proportions. It was bleak, dark and absolutely soaking wet. It would be interesting to see how our plans payed out.
Betty and Barney Rubble were due to join us and we had planned to head into Chichester for lunch. The Gorse Fox had suggested they bring their bus passes and we could just hop on the bus as it stopped right outside the restaurant. The point was, would it actually be too wet, and would we end up using the car anyway?
By the time they arrived, the rain had eased. Not stopped. Just eased. We sat at home and chatted over coffee and biscuits and caught up on the family news. Eventually it was time to head out and make a decision on our method of transport. The rain had stopped by now, so we chose the bus. As usual this was timely and efficient and deposited right by the restaurant just as their was a further cloudburst.
We sat in the bar area and enjoyed a quiet drink before going to our table. The we each chose from the tapas menu. The Gorse Fox chose "Two Giggling Squid" which was a portion of tempura fried squid in chilli, a massaman curry, some jasmine rice, and some lime and chilli beef salad. The Gorse Fox wondered if this would be enough, but it turned out to be very satisfying and he didn't need to worry. This was our third visit to The Giggling Squid, and was just as good as the previous times. Betty and Barney Rubble had never tried it before (there is one near them in Farnham), but they enjoyed it too and commented they would have to visit Farnham.
After the meal we hopped back on the bus and, back home, settled down with a cup of tea and a slice of apple pie. We had a lovely afternoon, but all things must pass. The temperature was dropping and it was dark when our good friends packed up their things and headed back across country.
