Gorse Fox was thinking about the rash of press officers (nearly 3000) discussed in the article referenced by his previous post. At first this seems profligate. Then his mind wandered back to a discussion he had earlier in the week.
The subject was how should major outbreaks of exotic disease be handled, and are the existing structures correct. This was when it dawned on him that after the recent distortions of news in Lebanon, and his own experience of misinformation during previous (bird flu) disease outbreaks, that it was essential that a trained media relations specialist was put in place to ensure that accurate information being told and told in a way that could not easily be misrepresented.
Ultimately, press officers are a direct response to the predatory and inaccurate reporting that is now de riguer for the MSM in their headlong rush to tell their own story. Gorse Fox concludes:
Don't blame the government for the growth in Press Officers, blame the Press.
