Sentences

There are things about modern the schooling that make us ask "what?". Ellie was dropped off this morning and we prepared her breakfast before it was time for her to get dressed. "Grandpa, let's play teachers." she said. It was this point that grandpa had to line up at the kitchen door before coming into class for registration, line up at the living room door before going into the gym, and sit still while he was challenged to complete some number sentences. Number Sentences? It took a while for the Gorse Fox to realise that a number sentence was, in fact, a formula or arithmetic construct such as a sum. He was pleased, however, to be awarded A+ by Ellie for correctly solving 100+100 and 100+2. (He would like to point out that he did not need to use a calculator in the completion of these sums).

It was soon time to swap roles. The Gorse Fox challenged Ellie with some number sentences. At first they were all additions of two numbers, then he introduced subtractions, and finally sums or subtractions with three numbers. She cracked them all. The Gorse Fox awarded her A+.

Once Ellie was washed and dressed we went to Sainsbury's. She has a bit of conjunctivitis and we needed to get to a pharmacy for some eye drops. While there we also bought her a colouring book and some more coloured pens. This kept her occupied for the rest of the morning. We dropped Ellie off at Urban-Cub's after lunch and then had a quiet afternoon with our books in the Orangery. Urban-Cub has the day off tomorrow, but we will see Ellie again on Wednesday.
