Repairs

We have some lovely doors in the house. One, however, is a little problematic. It is one of a pair of double doors that closes off the utility space. The problem lies with the fact that the carpenter who initially hung the door didn't quite place the handle mechanic in the right place. As a result the screws that hold the latch in place penetrate the door just where the from and back panels are joined and have caused them to separate and they don't hold the screws. Examination shows the internal fabric of the door is essentially fibre board. There's nothing for the ironmongery to grip.

The Gorse Fox decided it was time to try and get this sorted. The gap was cleaned and Gorilla Glue applied and held tightly closed with big g-clamps. As the glue cured the Gorse Fox examined the problem in greater detail. This was only going to solve a part of the problem. He then researched expanding foams, resins, and wood fillers. He has no doubts that a resin would solve the problem permanently... the only problem would be reforming the voids for the latch - and in such a hard material, the Gorse Fox is not convinced that would be easy.

Plan C has been implemented. A wood filler is currently curing in the void and hopefully that will do the trick... if not we may to revert to Plan B - the resin, or Plan D - a replacement door!

Buy the way the Gorse Fox woke up with a thick head and was a bit chesty so decided that football was a no go today. Hopefully should be feeling more up to it tomorrow.
