This view of the main entrance to the house shows how the drying of the timbers and shifting of the ground have caused the building to adopt this somewhat twisted appearance. To the right of the entance is the Great Hall, rising the full height of the house and originally heated by an open fire in the middle of the room vented through a hole in the roof. As technology moved on a huge walk-in fireplace was built vented through a proper chimney.
