The history of St Mary's goes back to the Templars, but the current house seems to date from about 1470 when William of Waynflete (Bishop of Winchester) set about restoring the bridge over the river and the chapel that had stood on the site.
Now, the house is owned by the author, Peter Thorogood and he has set about restoring and preserving the house and gardens.
