As someone who spends an unholy amount of time researching family records, the Gorse Fox would just like to go on record to say how appalling the Canadian records are. There seems to be nothing equivalent to our access to vital records (births, marriages, and deaths).
As if to highlight the problems with Canadian archives, the Gorse Fox wrote (months ago) to the military archives in Canada seeking information regarding his father's time in the Royal Canadian Navy. Today, he has received a response to say that the request has been received. It also went on to say that they are still dealing with requests from 2018... and blamed it on Covid-19. The Gorse Fox makes no judgement... but would pint out that he's 70 and is concerned he will time-out before the information is released. (At least this email was straightforward - the previous email had be signed by some wokeflake who insisted on defining the pronouns by which he/she/it should be addressed).
