As yesterday evening wore on, a message came in.
Barclays: A payment attempt of £489.49 to Apple Inc was declined, if this was NOT you. Please visit: https://barclays....
The Gorse Fox did a double take. Why would his card be declined? What had he bought from Apple (this time)?
Then it occurred to him... this is a phishing scam. But he still had nagging doubts. In the end, the Gorse Fox called the Barclaycard fraud line and chatted with them. They do not send out texts. There was no attempted activity on his card. This was an attempted fraud. The Gorse Fox was delighted that a) there was no attempt to use his card, and b) he recognised an attempted phishing scam.
Today has been fairly typical for a Wednesday. The Gorse Fox headed off to Worthing where we played 5-a-side football. The match was very one-sided. Unfortunately, not in our favour. This was predictable from the outset, but the organiser had set the teams wasn't in a mood to change them. In the end the Gorse Fox claimed that should he visit the Alamo again, he would scratch his name in the monument as he now understood how they felt.
There is a plume of Saharan dust high in the atmosphere. The rain we have had today has deposited several dunes and a small oasis on the car. It is pointless trying to clean it until the plume has cleared the country.
Ellie is with us again tonight. Urban-Cub's week goes from bad to worse as the break-in is followed by several more of her staff going down with Covid (on top of those already off with it). The problem is that Lidl run lean and mean and there is nobody to take up the slack or step in.
