The specific Neanderthal who tests fire was due to turn up at 5... and didn't; so I assume he will have to come tomorrow. He will probably light the fire (rubbing sticks together), then test it (stick hand in flame). If he screams, the fire works, if he doesn't... it doesn't. If smoke and burning flesh go up chimney, it works; if they fill the room, it doesn't.
