Furtling to Fowey

Didn't so much get up as get down this morning. Was obviously closer to edge of bed than I thought and managed to roll out of bed and onto the floor. One of those mornings that the general public can be grateful that I'm not a brain surgeon. The Silver Vixen and Cousteau-cub are both up and about, so hopefully we will get on the road early.

Got a note from Old Father Time this morning wishing The Silver Vixen a Happy Birthday.

What a foul day. We drove across the country through constant drizzle and low cloud. By the time we got as far as Salisbury, the drizzle was turning to sleet. (Traffic around Salisbury was slow, but the rest of the run was fine). Crossing the A303 towards Yeovil, there was snow lying in the hills, and some cars had snow build up on the windows. We made a comfort stop at Podimore, but then headed on towards Exeter. Stopped at Exeter services. They seem to get worse year on year.

Inside Exeter Services

Urban-cub phoned as we set off from Exeter to say that they were getting snowy rain across in Lancing - and she was so excited she just had to tell someone.

From Exeter we headed onwards. We dropped Cousteau-cub off at Plymouth with her friend Jenny. Then continued on to Fowey. The last part of the journey was a bit quicker as the traffic had dropped away. Overall, the journey had taken just over 5 hours, we had covered 253 miles and had averaged over 50mpg.

Fowey was wet and miserable when we arrived, but it was nice to check in and find the suite. We are staying at the Marina Hotel on the Esplanade. The suite is outside the main hotel building and was like an old boat house that had been converted. Inside it was bright, warm, and split into three sections: a bathroom, a double room, and a sitting room. It was lovely and quiet as the boathouse was down below the rest of the hotel, and was only disturbed by the gentle lapping of the river against the embankment.

Settling back down in our "suite", the Silver Vixen read the paper while I tried to get a signal on the mobile. Fowey seems to be a blank spot in the network ! Posted by Hello

Took a while to post the blog. Anti-virus was still running on the lapdog, and the telephone line could only manage 21kbps. May have to just concentrate on the text and keep the photos until we get home.

Fowey in the evening was quaint and quiet. We had supper at Sam's. It was a good local fish restaurant - simple, super, and huge portions that neither of us managed. Posted by Hello
