Many people will be fretting that tomorrow means "back to work" after the Christmas holidays. Not the Gorse Fox. The beauty of retirement is that tomorrow is just another holiday for us. Having said that, he was back in the swing of things today.
There was football to play. He made his way to the Sports Arena only to find the place was already packed and he had to use his local knowledge to find somewhere to park the car. We started the year with a nice 6-v-6 game. The teams seemed fairly evenly balanced, but the Gorse Fox was worried that two weeks without any exercise would show. Well, it did. At least it did at first. Passes were going astray. Shots were bringing down space debris. He was, however, defending resolutely. One of the payers on the other team (who hadn't warmed up) tore a calf muscle and had to drop out at half-time. By then we were 4-1 ahead, so we sacrificed one of our players, leaving us a man down for the second half. We carried on as we had finished the first half. The Gorse Fox got off the mark with his first two goals of the year and we rolled off the pitch with a 9-3 win. Very satisfying.
It's been a quiet afternoon.
