As the Gorse Fox surfed the chalk shapes became clear in the murk. Peering across (north-eastwards) towards Coombehead he noticed this.
At first he could see the "pens" constructed from the huge cylindrical straw bales. What a clever idea!
Then it was a matter of deciding what they were used for. Animals could be seen in the field in front of the "pens"... and they appeared to be foraging on a ploughed field, so GF assumed them to be pigs.
A young lady was walking her dogs, so GF decided her youthful eyes are probably more effective than his, so asked. She explained that the animals were sheep, and the farmer uses the straw pens when he is shearing, and you can see the sheep dogs working the sheep, on some days. That solved that.
The young lady commented on the wonderful view, and that she was walking her trial dogs. GF hadn't noticed them, but despite her assurances could see no wig or gown, so maybe thay just sit on the jury?
