Yesterday, Ellie threw a tantrum before bed. This involved slamming the bedroom door with all the force she could muster. The Gorse Fox intervened and slapped the back of her hand. What he didn't do was check the door (which already had a slight problem in as much east the handle was catching slightly).
This morning the Gorse Fox decided to fix the sticking for handle. Huh!
The handle was disassmbled. and the mechanism removed from the door. It was at this point the Gorse Fox realised that the door handle that used to be depressed to open the door, now had to be elevated to open it.Down became Up and Up just didn't work. This, he thought, would be easy to solve. There would be a small lever or switch that needed adjustment. There wasn't.
After some 30 minutes the Gorse Fox decided he was missing something and needed a second opinion. He rang the bell to speak to Two Hats. We faffed and fiddled and ultimately failed. Whatever had happened, it seemed to have flipped the mechanism for good. The Gorse Fox went round to B&Q and bought a replacement,. The assistant went to great pains to show the Gorse Fox how stupid he was, and all he had to do was flip the the mortise latch.
The Gorse Fox is pleased to announce that the assistant was wrong.
He bought a replacement (Yale). it took longer to remove it from its packaging than it took to install. The door is now back to normal and ready for Ellie's next tantrum.
