Death by 1K Cuts

Gorse Fox has expressed the view before that home ownership is a form of financial death by a thousand cuts. Arriving home from Worcester last Thursday evening he was greeted by an ominous dripping sound from a radiator.

The normal source of drips from a radiator is the valve at the flow or return...

Nothing that simple here. Oh no. For the Gorse Fox it was a pinhole rust-blister on the back (wall-side) of the radiator that had decided to fail. A fine spray of rust-contaminated water was arcing against the wall and dripping into the bowl that the Silver Vixen had put below.

A degree of faffing resulted in the isolation of the device from the water, and a drip-free weekend. Today the inestimable Mr Hunter arrived. All is now well. A new radiator is in place... and Gorse Fox will probably have to delay his retirement by another year... (though to be fair, Mr hunter is not only a superb plumber and tidy workman, he is also pretty reasonable).
