This walk, even more than most, was characterised by bottoms.
The first gentle climb looked down over Ewe Bottom and Hogtrough Bottom, as the Gorse Fox walked north from Patcham. Slowly the sound of the A27 faded into silence, a few cyclists, and one or two walkers were about, but they soon disappeared.
The weather was perfect. Not a cloud to be seen, cools and crisp, without being cold, the low autumn sun highlighting the contours of the ground, or allowing them to lapse into shadow.
