At the far end of the tube, having passed the lake we climbed back to an oasis of beauty, still 20 or 30 feet below ground level.Carefully sculpted paths and steps led round a pool. The entrance to a large underground auditorium was at the far end (though closed).
Whilst not the riot of colour you would see in an English garden, the subtle shades of the rocks and glow of the shrubs was quite enchanting.
