Another day in front of the screen, working on the deck design. The problem GF was faced with is, seemingly, quite simple. How do you model a wooden beam with 45 degree cuts at the end? It's possible, but it is incredibly time consuming. Indeed, it would be quicker to actually cut the real beams.
Frustrating.

Why not go "old school" and use pen and paper?
Producing electronic plans for a single construction is a significant investment of time with minimal likelihood of the plans being reused.
If a record is needed, your paper plans could always be scanned and filed once finalised.
From personal experience a paper drawing is more than adequate for materials estimating and construction of projects more complex than a deck.
Looks like a mild case of procrastination to me.
The plans started off on paper.... don't worry! However, we wanted to be able to adapt and view them from different perspectives to choose the best options. The basic 3d Sketchup plan was very quick to create, it has been the more detailed one that GF has had problems with. This is now resolved.
As for procrastination... I'll answer that tomorrow. :)
