The serried ranks of groynes reach into the sea and protect our beach from serious erosion.Apparently, back in the 1920's, some bright spark decided to change the angle of attack of the groynes and 11 acres were lost from one small stretch of coast (near West Kingston) in one winter. Things were immediately put back how they were.
