It was a good game - one of our last chances to practice before the tournament on Wednesday. The Gorse Fox's team lost, but it was close. He scored a couple of goals but dropped back as goalkeeper after a while, when our other goalies let several goals in. At half time we swapped ends and all was going well until the Gorse Fox rolled his ankle which left him hobbling slightly. More frustrating, however, was his final save in a batch of sustained pressure. Gazza hit the ball hard and the Gorse Fox realised a moment or two later that his thumb was not meant to bend back quite like that... as the ball caught him on the end of the thumb.
That was it. The Gorse Fox couldn't continue in goal and had to go back out into the field as he couldn't move his thumb.
Several hours and a lot of arnica cream later the bruising is coming out - it can move, but the thumb is still very sore. One advantage of this is that the Gorse Fox has an excuse not to play in goal during the tournament.
