The Gorse Fox strayed a little further east for this walk. It was a grey, but dry day. Low cloud hung along the Downs, but it was warm enough to walk in shirt sleeves.
This rout started in the village of Poynings which is about one third in from the left of this map, down in the dip below the north face of the Downs. The plan was to follow this route anti-clockwise, round the rim of the Devil's Dyke, across Summer Down and Saddlecombe and down to Haresdean, where the route crossed the A23 (London-Brighton Road). The route then continued up Wolstonbury Hill, down past the chalk pits, and then back under the A23. From there it was across Newtimber, passing High Beeches and back to Poynings and the car.
