Marriage

The Gorse Fox just found a copy of a letter he wrote to a cousin on the occasion of his wedding. On re-reading the content, the Gorse Fox rather liked the following extract:
Once the day is over and you embark upon lives together I can only hope that you’ll be really happy. We have a few simple rules that guide us.
  • Remember that love is give and take. Give generously, and take thankfully.
  • If you disagree on something, state your case clearly and precisely. Listen to the other point of view. Then either concede to the other point of view or agree to differ. Do not dwell on it. However trivial, it will cause entrenchment.
  • A married couple is a team.
  • There are no tasks that are “his” or “hers”. Whatever they are, they are ours.
  • Talk to each other. Voice your problems, irritations and concerns. Be a sensitive listener.
  • Recognise when your partner needs solitude or silence.
  • Most important of all…. Have fun together
This may all seem obvious. I hope it does.
