The Gorse Fox and Silver Vixen headed out for a bite to eat and then on to the Chichester Festival Theatre.
The Festival has just begun and tonight was first night of a short run for a musical based on a P.G.Wodehouse play. GF likes his work and his witty writing, so thought it worth a try.
"Damsel in Distress" kicked off in front of a packed house. The first ten minutes reinforced to the GF why he hates musicals - all squealing, tap-dancing, over-acting, and nonsense. Then, it became clear that this was almost a play within a play, and it lifted itself into the actual story. Much to his relief, GF found himself starting to enjoy it, and in the end admits it was a very good evening. The plot was a bit predictable but the songs were ok and some quite witty.
(It won't compete with Eric Clapton, but then it was only 10 minutes from home - and a fraction of the price).
