After meeting up for a long and enjoyable lunch at the “Lord Moon of the Mall” (which, ironically was in Whitehall, not The Mall). Laura decided jet lag had kicked in and left the party.
We grabbed a couple of taxis and headed for Shakespeare's Globe. Most of the family in the first cab, GF following in another. GF’s taxi driver swept past the first cab as he railed at rioters, immigrants, workshy, and generally everyone that wasn’t him. This obviously overwhelmed his brain because he got lost and GF turned up several minutes after the rest of the family.
We bought our tickets for the tour and started at the museum. This proved to be far more interesting that GF was expecting, and he disappointed when the call came through that the tour was about to begin.
An amazonian* guide with a stentorian voice bellowed at us to gather round and she ushered up into the theatre itself. She then went on to explain how the various classes of society would stand or sit in the different parts of the theatre and how performances would continue whatever the weather; how all actors were male (even playing female parts); and how it was considered somewhat dissolute and that was why it was south of the river.
Good tour and thoroughly worth the trip.
