The phone rang - it was the heating engineer. The gas valve may take several days to come in and cost several hundred pounds by the time it is fitted. The good news, however, is that if doesn't arrive and get fitted today, they will bring round some heaters for us to use free of charge until they sort the problem out.
GF can't complain about the service

Why do such small compnnts always cost so much more than they should and why is it that they are never available when needed? Could it be that it fails so often its always out of stock?
Or am I just being an old cynic?
Well, to be fair, the boiler is old and no longer made. I assume it also becoming more uncommon, so the likelihood of local engineer carrying spares must be rapidly diminishing.
