UK Commentators - Laban Tall's Blog has an interesting piece on Srebrenice.
By any definition the massacre of 8,000 people there was crime against humanity.
But something is bothering the Gorse Fox.
When terrorists struck last week, we (and the media) were quick to label them "Islamic terrorists"; but nobody labeled the Bosnian Serbs "Christian murderers"... yet they were performing an ethnic cleansing along religious boundaries.
GF is troubled. He feels that labels are too simplistic. They have the habit of lumping 99.999% of good people in with the 0.001% of bad. This engenders distrust and disrespect for people who do not deserve such treatment and spreads division in the population. This, you could argue, panders to the very aims of the terrorists.
Having said that, he does not feel qualified to offer a simple alternative.
