Hypocrisy: FT.com / World / US - Merchant of Venice distributor demands pound of flesh

FT.com / World / US - Merchant of Venice distributor demands pound of flesh
You have to draw breath and count to ten when faced with the hypcocrisy of this. Frecoes from the old masters are too racy to be shown to the US TV audience.

This is the same audience fed on the obscene levels violence that permeate their whole society. Be it their foreign policy, their TV shows, movies or computer games, the violence is everywhere. That's ok, but masterpeices of the renaissance might corrupt the nation.

Of course they also claim that this level of violence doesn't influence or corrupt the viewer. You can't have it both ways guys - if it doesn't corrupt them, then the frescoes should stay in. If it does, then stop the violence too.

Oh yes, and by the way... if what is seen on TV and in movies doesn't influence the viewer there are some pretty stupid companies around paying money for advertising that can't possibly work.

Give me a break!
