Family

I was up early. Once the coffee was brewing, I retrieved the beef from the fridge, lined a deep baking tray, placed the dry-rubbed beer into the tray, and covered it with the glaze I prepared yesterday. The oven was set at 130C, and the beef started its five-hour journey to our plates.  I then settled down with my coffee and the overnight news.

The morning was interspersed with bouts of activity... vegetables had to be prepared, a chicken needed roasting, and we prepared for the arrival of Kim, Jon, Zoe, and Ellie. When Kim and Jon did arrive, we had the chance to see Kim's new car (Peugeot 3008). I must say, it's very impressive and (as long as it's reliable) it should last her for quite a while.

I served up lunch. I wasn't totally happy with the beef. It was nice enough, but not as fall-apart tender as I had expected, and the dry rub had left it with a slight peppery flavour. The roast potatoes and roast carrots were excellent, however, and I managed to beat Jon (since there were potatoes left).

Everybody mucked in when it came to the clear-up and by late afternoon they had gone home.

We had a quiet evening, reflecting on how nice the day had been.
