Dumbing down
The Gorse Fox can only assume that University Challenge is dumbing down. He watched it for the first time in years and was gob-smacked by how many questions he managed to answer.
Peter Hitchens reckons that it's got a lot more specialised as what used people used to know as common general knowledge has become a lot less common. Sounds plausible.

The other side of the coin is that, as we all get older, we also accumulate a great deal of "general" knowledge in a very wide spectrum.
