Not The Alamo

The Gorse Fox returned to the south coast... just in time for the football.

Watching the game, and disappointed by the outcome (Spurs lost on aggregate, though drew tonight) he was reminded of his visit to the Capitol Building in Austin, Tx. There, beneath the dome, were several marble inlays commemorating the great victories of Texas. The guide talked through each, arriving at one for The Alamo. A fellow tourist, much braver that the Gorse Fox (GF has a view that you don't ask difficult questions to people who seem to enjoy wearing guns), chipped in and asked how Texas could claim The Alamo as a famous victory. The guide paused, looked up, pierced him with a killing stare and drawled:
"It was a moral victory."

Well, the UEFA Cup semi-final was also a moral victory. Seville only won because they were wrongly awarded a penalty in the first leg, and the referee failed to give a clear penalty to Spurs at White Hart Lane, and allowed Seville to continue with all 11 men despite one of them clearly stamping on the head of Jermaine Jenas.
