April's Fool

April the First. All Fool's day. It is always an interesting challenge to read the papers on April 1st and try to work out which story is the spoof. Some years it is diificult, but this year was easy.

The papers want us to believe that Gordon Brown was warned about the damage "devastating impact" his annual raid on pension funds would do. This change has hit 11 million people with company pensions and 7 million with private schemes... and he was warned that it would encourage employers to ditch final salary pension schemes and it would wipe millions off of fund assets.

Obviously this was an April Fool. Surely no Chancellor could be so criminally negligent to deliberatly harm the futures of 18 million voters.
