First impressions

The food at the the hotel could become a theme for the week. The breakfast and evening buffet are superb. Indeed the Gorse Fox is convinced that his colleague, Boston, would consider it the gates to paradise.

The day started with text message from the happy couple and included `please call`. Worried there was a problem GF obliged... And woke them up. Nothing was wrong, so GF had woken them needlessly. Oooops.

We met with the rep and arranged a hire car for a few days, starting tomorrow. Then we decided to explore and set off alog the promenade twards the port of Playa Blanca. First impressions are quite good. The planning laws have prevented any buildings over two stories, buildings must be painted white and have either blue or green window surrounds. As a result the island seems to have a certain integrity and charm. The shopping precinct was nice, with a good selection of shops for all tastes, and nobody trying to drag you in off the streets.

Down by the beach we watched as the locals cleaned and prepared the fish that had just been landed. This is not done in some faceless factory, but rather in the surf beneath the restaurants under the watchful gaze of the tourists and marauding seagulls.

The afternoon as spent by the pool.
