Human Rights

Melanie Phillips, writing in today's Daily Mail finishes her article with the assertion:
"Human rights doctrine has become a principal weapon against our society, with the judges the standard bearers in this culture war."
I think the phrase that comes to mind is "Way to go, girl!".

As the Gorse Fox recently commented (in the very excellent Lewes Chronicle):

Personally I would prefer to see a European Convention on Human Responsibilities. I do not dispute that everyone should have rights (and even have them enshrined in Law), but I also believe there is a balance that says your rights are at risk if you do not fulfill your responsibilities to society. At the moment the balance seems wrong, in that the Human Rights legislation is used to abuse society and dodge responsibility.
